On behalf of the ISoP Executive Committee and the Local Organizing Committee, it is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 20th Annual Meeting of the International Society of Pharmacovigilance (ISoP 2020) in Muscat, Oman, 12 – 15 October 2020. ISoP is a global society with members in over 100 countries and each year we hold our Annual Meetings in different parts of the world. This time, we are very pleased to be hosted by the ISoP Middle East chapter and Ministry of Health, Oman. Muscat is located at the communication crossroads of Asia, Africa and Europe and is easily accessible for many of our potential conference delegates.
The theme of the 2020 meeting is ‘Integrated Pharmacovigilance for Safer Patients’ with the intention of discussing how to bring together different activities and stakeholders in pharmacovigilance, creating more effective systems.
Much effort has been made lately to put in place harmonised legal and regulatory frameworks for pharmacovigilance in different parts of the world, and to ensure political and financial commitment for pharmacovigilance activities. Although such commitment is necessary, the attainment of well-integrated pharmacovigilance systems also requires careful coordination of all stakeholders and data sources.
Relevant safety data are being captured and stored around the world using many disparate data streams and data bases. They are available in different formats and are collected through different media from healthcare providers, marketing organization holders, public health programmes and directly from medicine users. Partnerships with academia and media are critical for capacity building and public communication respectively.
Effective and intelligent analysis of all data collected for the benefit of patient safety requires coordination of stakeholder activities on local, regional and global levels and convergence of methods, nomenclatures and communication channels.
Our ISoP 2020 conference will offer new perspectives and opportunities to discuss how to avoid fragmentation of pharmacovigilance systems, ensuring effective use of available safety information, supporting continuous learning and improvement of the safe use of medicines for all.
The scientific programme will be complemented with a number of attractive social activities.
Welcome to Muscat!
